Strauss – Korngold – Fauré – Merikanto
Finnish-Icelandic soprano Wilhelmína Tómasdóttir is a many-sided singer who is in her element on the stage. Being inspired by the stories within and behind music, she finds lied and chamber music to be particularly close to her heart. Tómasdóttir has performed as part of diverse line-ups at the Naantali Music Festival and Kitara Nova Festival, among others, and in 2018 she and pianist Siiri Ylijoki won the B Series of the Helsinki Lied Competition. She is currently finalising her Vocal Arts studies at the Uniarts Helsinki Sibelius Academy, under Annika Ollinkari. Tómasdóttir has received funding for her studies and artistic work from the Pro Musica Foundation, the Selim Eskelin Foundation and the Sibelius Academy Foundation.
Pianist Aino Heimonen particularly enjoys working with lied and chamber music. She is completing Master’s studies Piano Music at the Sibelius Academy under the tutelage of Antti Hotti and Naoko Ichihashi. She has received instruction in lied music from Ilmo Ranta, Heikki Pellinen and Gustav Djupsjöbacka, among others, and has taken active part in lied masterclasses held by Hartmut Höll, Andreas Schmidt, Angelika Kirchschlager and Daniel Fueter. Heimonen was one of the finalists with her duet partner in the B Series of the Helsinki Lied Competition in 2018, and has appeared with diverse vocalists in concerts in the Sibelius Academy’s Soiva kieli series, at Hakasalmi Villa and at the Kirpilä Art Collection.
