The museum offers tailored tours for school groups, lasting around 45 minutes. The tours are free and must be booked in advance.
The Kirpilä Art Collection showcases the extensive Finnish art collection amassed by rheumatologist Juhani Kirpilä (1931–1988). The eight-room, 350-square-meter apartment offers an impressive experience surrounded by hundreds of paintings and sculptures. The atmosphere and spirit of a luxurious 20th-century Töölö home have been preserved in rooms furnished in their original style.
Schools can book free guided tours of the Kirpilä Art Collection for student groups. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
During the school tour, the guide introduces the collection and its collector, highlighting artworks that are particularly engaging for children. The collection includes, for example, many pieces featuring animals. The tour also adapts to the children’s interests, and they are encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts on the artworks.
Groups may arrive at the Kirpilä Art Collection ten minutes before their scheduled tour. Please note that the museum is located on the top floor of a six-story residential building. The elevator accommodates four people at a time, so large groups are asked to use the stairs when arriving. Movement in the stairwell should be quiet to respect the residents of the building.
The entry area, typical of a 1930s apartment, is quite small and can only accommodate around ten people at a time. Especially in winter, large groups must take turns putting on and taking off outerwear. Some students may wait with the guide in the next room while others get ready. Visitors must wear socks or indoor shoes while inside. Backpacks must be left in the entry area or office.
The maximum group size is approximately 15 people. If your class is larger, please discuss arrangements when booking. It is recommended that more than one adult accompany the group.
The Kirpilä Art Collection is homely, warm, and unique—but it is also an art museum. Everything may be looked at, but nothing may be touched without permission. Because there are many valuable works on the walls, visitors must move calmly and stay with the group. During the visit, teachers and accompanying adults are primarily responsible for ensuring appropriate behavior.
To cancel your booking free of charge, please do so at least one week before the scheduled tour. Cancellations made later, or failure to arrive for a booked visit, will incur a €45 fee.
