The Kirpilä Art Collection also offers audio-described tours. Visually impaired participants have the opportunity to explore selected objects and sculptures through touch, using gloves.
Audio-described tours are held in the former home of rheumatologist Juhani Kirpilä (1931–1988) and his life partner, antiques dealer Karl Rosenqvist, located in the Töölö district of Helsinki. During the tours, participants are introduced to works from Kirpilä’s collection of Finnish art. Visually impaired visitors are also given the opportunity to explore selected objects and sculptures through touch, wearing gloves.
Audio-described tours can also be booked for private groups by contacting taidekoti@skr.fi or calling +358 50 351 4337. The price for a private tour is €70 on weekdays and €90 on weekends. It is also possible to book a tour outside regular opening hours, during which there will be no other visitors at the museum. The maximum group size for private tours is 16 people (including any assistants).
Please note that the Kirpilä Art Collection is not fully accessible. The museum is located on the sixth floor of an apartment building, accessible by a gated elevator. There are five steps at the building’s main entrance, and visitors must request entry by pressing the door buzzer or calling by phone. Detailed accessibility information can be found further down this page under “Accessibility and Inclusion.”
